Greg and Kathy’s engagement session took place on a relatively warm November day in beautiful historic Southport, NC. I was really excited to photograph their engagement session and to be able to meet them, as I was scheduled to photograph their wedding in the coming spring. Greg and Kathy were from out of town and had never really explored the Southport waterfront. I love Southport and I was so very happy to be able to photograph their engagement session there. Growing up my family would go on summer vacations along the coast of NC and we would always make a stop in Southport to take in the beautiful scenery and of course eat some of the amazing seafood there.

Prior to Greg and Kathy’s engagement session, I did some location scouting in South Port. I was looking for some great nautical scenery to tie into their nautical wedding theme.

What luck to find a lime green boat by the dock! The lime green boat really created a colorful background and gives me the feeling of summer time, even though this was photographed in late fall. I think Greg and Kathy really enjoyed being waterside too!

For this photograph, I asked Greg and Kathy to sit on the ground and just take a moment to enjoy the beautiful scenery by the Community Building in Southport.

Southport is full of beautiful historic homes that overlook the water. Greg and Kathy had never walked around the waterfront of Southport before and I thought it would be great idea to show them around and get some great candid moments in the process 🙂

What I think was really fun about this engagement session with Greg and Kathy, was just showing them around Southport. I know engagement sessions can be a little awkward for clients, meeting with a photographer they have never met before and trying to feel comfortable in front of the camera. But, I really make every effort to make people feel comfortable in front of the camera. My session with Greg and Kathy was literally just going for a relaxed stroll around beautiful Southport and letting Greg and Kathy be themselves. In the process I think we all had fun 🙂
